Akron Art Museum Third Thursday Holiday mART December 16, 2010, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Annette offered her latest designs of mixed media fiber jewelry. Hand stitched with contemporary style each necklace included exotic threads and colorful beads creating personal art that speaks, feels, and celebrates.

While you shop, the public enjoyed music from The ReBeats: A Beatles Tribute band playing of the favorite fab four songs.

Annette featured at Mocha Maiden Gallery

Silk, Fiber, Paintings, and Jewels exhibit a success at The Upper Gallery of Mocha Maiden.

The opening reception on Saturday, November 11, 2006, brought an enthusiastic and knowledgeable group of art patrons to The Upper Gallery of Mocha Maiden, 17-19 Maiden Lane, Akron.

Guests enjoyed the innovative designs of Annette Boncek, Margot Eisenman, and Laurel Winters.  The three Akron area artists incorporate nature, flowers, and garden scenes in their colorful designs.

Annette’s work included her new vases with flowers.  Offered in two sizes, the vases contain three vibrant flowers made from hand-dyed fabric, beads, Swarovski crystals, and exotic yarns.

Each sculpture makes a bold colorful statement about the beauty of flowers embellished with an artistic view.

I made these collage cards a week ago but they fit this post well because last night at the reception for the 19th Annual Artists of Rubber City Show (sometimes known as the May Show). I won an honorable mention award for 2 of my stitched cabinet card pieces.

Two women who were in my art classes in high school were also in the show and one of them, Katina Pastis Radwanski, won a third place for a very large, powerful, abstract painting called “First Kiss”.  Another classmate, Annette Boncek, had a beautiful beaded and stitched wall-piece accepted.  It was a wonderful night, and all the work there was worth seeing again and again.

The Mocha Maiden Gallery has changed considerably from last year and is now a very polished place to exhibit with a wine bar, new architectural detail, and a retail next door with art gifts that were calling my name.  Something very creative is afoot in Akron, Ohio.

Social Justice Award Honors Women Leaders

Annette was invited again to make an award for The Women’s Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation honoring Deb Lemire, artistic director of Queen Bee Productions, with its Marie Covington Outrageous Acts for Social Justice Award.

The award is presented Oct. 14, 2010, at the fund’s annual Outrageous Acts for Social Justice Awards Event, held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Happy Days Lodge in Peninsula.

Annette created one of the awards presented in 2009 at the “Hats Off to Gloria” celebration of Gloria Steinem’s 75th birthday honoring women leaders in the Akron and Medina communities.  Congratulations to 2009 Social Justice Award Recipients Marie Covington & Dottie Achmoody.

Annette returned to The Textile Art Alliance of the Cleveland Museum of Art for its sixth Annual Wearable Art Fashion Show & Boutique Oct. 17, 2010, 10:30 am to 5:00 pm at the LaMalfa Conference Center in the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites on 5783 Heisley Road in Mentor, Ohio.

Guests met the designers, saw the newest, freshest fashions and accessories in the area and purchased one-of-a-kind pieces or special holiday gift at this fundraising event.

The wearable art runway show educated the audience about the fashions on display by describing the pieces in detail and explaining the creation process behind each piece.

Annette featured her mixed media fiber artwork at the “Making Visible” exhibit October 1 to November 7, 2010, at Summit Art Space, 140 East Market St., Akron, OH 44308.

The exhibit included the work of mixed media artist Maria Zanetta and photographer Jeffrey Eason.

The show opened Friday, October 1, with a free meet-the-artists reception from 5 to 7 pm.  The theme for the exhibit, curated by Joan Colbert, came from artist Paul Klee: “ Art does not reproduce the visible, but rather makes it visible.”

The artwork was on display October 1 through November 7, 2010, during gallery hours noon to 5 pm Thursday through Saturday.

"Making Visible" was also open until 9 pm for the Saturday Art Walks on October 2 and November 6 plus on October 3 and November 7 from 11 am to 5 pm for Sunday Sampler, an art walk with the Akron Art Museum and Akron-Summit Public Library.
